2025 Planning- Timeline

Updated: 8 hours ago

Here's a rough timeline of my sailing goal, which I have been meticulously crafting to ensure that every step is accounted for and that I stay on track towards achieving my dream of sailing the open seas.

January and February - During these crucial months, my primary focus will be to work as much as possible in order to save up the necessary funds to make my sailing aspirations a reality. I will be leveraging all of my income streams, which include my full-time job, freelance projects, and other side ventures, while simultaneously working to minimize my expenses as much as I can. My target is to accumulate between 20-30% of the total price of my yacht, which ranges from approximately $50,000 to $90,000. While I have managed to set aside a fair amount of savings already, I recognize that this period is absolutely crunch time, and every dollar counts. This means cutting back on discretionary spending, seeking out additional work opportunities, and possibly even selling items I no longer need to boost my savings further.

March - This month will be pivotal as I need to file my taxes and consolidate any outstanding loans and expenses to streamline my financial situation. Additionally, I will seek pre-approval for a yacht loan, which is an essential step in the purchasing process. Given that I have made significantly more money over the past two years compared to the two years prior, I will utilize this income to bolster my loan application. I have dedicated years to improving my credit score, reducing my overall debt, and establishing a stable and robust financial foundation. It is imperative that I have everything organized and in order, as I will still be working while on my cruise, and I need to ensure that I can meet a very tight timeline for all of these financial transactions to go smoothly.

Once the financial groundwork is laid, I will move on to the exciting phase of purchasing my yacht. This process will involve several key steps: testing the yacht to ensure it meets my needs, making an offer, conducting a thorough survey to check for any potential issues, closing the deal, and finally transitioning ownership. After purchasing, I will need to arrange for the yacht to be transported to my designated starting position, which will be either Miami or Fort Lauderdale, where I will begin my journey.

April - In April, the focus will shift towards outfitting the yacht to prepare it for my upcoming adventures. This will involve testing all systems on board to ensure functionality and safety, as well as provisioning the yacht with all necessary supplies for my journey. I will meticulously plan and stock up on food, water, and other essentials to ensure that I am well-prepared for the initial leg of my voyage. Once outfitted and provisioned, I will transport the yacht to the starting point, finalizing preparations for departure.

May 1 - I have set the ambitious date of May 1 to set sail for Bimini, a beautiful destination that marks the beginning of my Caribbean adventure. This will be a significant milestone, as it represents the culmination of all my hard work and planning.

Throughout

May, June, and July - I will sail through the stunning Caribbean, exploring various islands and enjoying the breathtaking scenery and vibrant cultures that each destination has to offer. These sections of the plan will be published later as the timeline solidifies. My journey will culminate in the Virgin Islands, where I hope to revel in the beauty and tranquility of this paradise. This entire experience is not just about reaching a destination; it’s about embracing the journey, learning from the challenges, and savoring the freedom that comes with sailing the open waters.

August - Transport the yacht to its hurricane weathering destination. I haven't found where I'm going to store the yacht through hurricane months (August through November) and this timeline may already be a little ambitious.
